The Jade Eye Auditions

The Jade Eye by Lisa Givan is a hilarous noir-style detective story.

Come prepared to perform a 1-minute comedic monolouge.

Auditions will be held in the FHS Drama Room. Enter through the gate on 2nd street (across from the Library & Memorial Building).

Rehearsals will begin on September 3rd. Show will run from October 18th- October 26th.

Synopsis: It is some time in early 1940’s Chicago. Private investigator Dick Crane is handed the case of his career as he investigates the theft of a priceless necklace from a high-profile charity gala. With a list of potential suspects that includes socialites, philanthropists, and some shady characters, Crane navigates a web of deceit and hidden motives. With help from his faithful sidekick, Friday, Crane must solve the case before it slips through his fingers.

Cast of Characters (line count):

DICK CRANE (165): Protagonist. Looking for his big break, but always falls short. Protective of his guy, Friday. Dedicated to his Secretary Vera. Loves the ladies. Consistently tries to sound smart but mispronounces words.

FRIDAY (68): The quiet sidekick. Always finds the clues, never gets the credit. He is gay but neither hides nor flaunts it. It is alluded to that he is brilliant and we know that he assists the FBI.

DELLA FINESSE (40): Della is the femme fatale. She climbed her way to the top and is determined to stay there at any cost. Della is known for playing The Boulevard Room and people come from all over to see her perform. She is nearly always in the presence of her backup singers, Celia and Faye.

VIC SHADY (39): Vic is known to all as a philanthropist but is actually connected to the mob. He is always in the presence of his goons Rocco and Tony. Vic is very wealthy and he owns The Boulevard Room.

ROCCO (28): Rocco is the head goon. He is supposed to be the brains of the two but he really is not. Rocco is a tiny man with a big mouth.

VERA (26): Married to Burt, a tennis coach. She is devoted to Crane and takes care of all aspects of his life because he does not have a wife to do it for him. She is protective and sometimes motherly. She is a wicked gossip but pretends she is not.

FAYE (22): Faye is the smarter, and more pragmatic of the two women. She is usually the one to correct Faye or redirect her when she thinks she is being silly.

CELIA (18): Celia is the ditzy one of the two. She loves Tony even though she knows he is bad.

TONY (14): One of Vic’s goonsquad. A man of few words. Tony is enormous and very protective of Rocco.

CAL (7): Bartender, Coat Clerk, Bar Bouncer. Cal switches hats (literally and figuratively) between all three roles.

ARTHUR (7): A young client.

CORA (5), ADELINE (2), & ANNIE (2): Della’s “nieces.”

BART (1): A cad.

VIVIAN (1): A married woman who is seeing Bart.
